Lombok - Part 3 (Gili Islands)

Gili in local Sasak language means small island. The Sasak language is spoken by the Sasak ethnic group, which make up the majority of the population of Lombok, Indonesia. Foreigners commonly refer to the 3 islands located off the northwest coast of Lombok as Gili Islands. The 3 islands are Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air (Air means water and pronounced as Ah-eh). Gili Trawangan is the biggest in size and the most developed. Meno is the smallest and the quietest with least development. Gili Air is somewhat in between of the 2 in terms of development and is nearest to the Lombok main island.

Most tourists who visited Lombok would do at least one of the three activities below:-
(1) Mt. Rinjani (active volcano) for trekking/camping.
(2) Gili Islands for scuba diving/snorkeling/fishing/sun bathing/etc.
(3) Kuta beaches (southern Lombok) for its pristine beaches and surfing.
